Are You Having New Gutters Installed? Make Sure You Also Install Gutter Guards

Home & Garden Blog

If you are having new gutters installed on your home, this would be the perfect time to also install gutter guards. Below are different types of gutter guards available for your home so you can make a choice and get them installed.

Gutter Guards

Different types of gutter guards you can choose from including:

Screen

Screen gutter guards are made of a perforated plastic or metal sheet and lie on top of your gutters. There are small holes in the plastic or metal that prevent debris from getting through them. Water is still able to get through the gutter guards with no problem.

The holes are larger than on other types of gutter guards. Because of this tiny debris will be able to get through the holes easily. This includes things like grit that come from some shingles, pollen, seeds, pine needles, and more. These gutter guards are very light so would not be a good choice if you live in an area that often gets high winds. They are less expensive than other types and you can install them on your own.

Mesh

Mesh gutters guards work like screen gutter guards but the holes are much smaller. This means even more debris is blocked, including some pests. There are both plastic and metal mesh gutter guards, as well as a variety of styles.

This type of gutter guard should be installed by a roofing contractor or other professional. This will ensure they are installed properly so they work well for you. If you choose this type, make sure the gutters are durable and steady, so they do not blow off the roof if you have high winds.

Micro Mesh

Another type you can choose for your home is the micro mesh gutter guards. The holes on the screen are even smaller than the mesh guards. This would be best used if you have a lot of trees near your roof. This also is best if you live in an area that has a lot of pine trees, high pollen counts, and if there is a lot of dirt near your home.

Water does flow slower through the holes as they are much smaller. If you live in an area that gets a lot of heavy rains this may not be a good choice for you. Hire a professional to install micro mesh gutter guards for you as they are difficult to install for most people.
